Last weeks event introduced us to two new players, one of which absolutely dominated to competition alongside his teammate with his list called "Tractor Beam". Comprised of Shadow Caster, Mist Hunter and a Quadjumper, the entire goal of the list is to bully his opponents ships off of the board.
Given the purpose of the tractor beam, which does exactly that already along side the Space Potato, the Hotdog of Destiny and The Deadly Dinner Plate, you have yourself a delicious list of destruction.
His Partner ran 1 StarViper, Fenn Rau fully equipped for knife fighting, and an ever agile M1-A Interceptor with a Mangler Cannon equipped to it, thanks to the Heavy Sykk Upgrade card giving it access to a cannon upgrade.
Essentially these two lists result in my favorite part of this team league, the "Lesser of Two Evils" approach. Both lists are deadly in their own right, and it's not as simple as disassembling them apart. The Shadow Caster is deceptively quick, and armed with a psudo-360 degree turret to boot, so trying to take out the smaller fighters means that if you're not quick, several shots will come your way. Alternatively, focusing the dinner plate down with result in the smaller fighter either chasing you down with their heavy guns, or getting tossed around the map from tractor beams.
Realistically, it's probably both.
These two lists rose undefeated though not without a close match in the second round, as the list had a difficult time dealing with a combined Rebel/Imps team of K-Wings equipped with ordnance(and one with Sabine Wren riding shotgun) and 2 interceptors, "Youngster" equipped with "Expose" and a Countess Ryad.
Bombs are a fickle weapon, most folks complain you can't dodge them, some think they don't do enough overall. I think they're great when your opponent has what I like to call Fire Dice. It's when your opponents seems to always be rolling well. Since bombs are considered an obstacle for the purposes of movement, the person that hits those bombs get to roll the dice.
I'm certain you see where I'm going with this. This nearly proved to be the Marquee Teams undoing as the K-Wing's Bombs turned their luck against them, resulting the the second list of Dengaroo being nearly eliminated by a single set of cluster mines.
Pulling out the win by a close 12 points after a long drug out game, the Scum combo team won the night undefeated.
